Sacambu Tour Route and Activities
Navigation on the Amazon River and Yavarí River
We will sail along the Amazon River until we reach the Yavarí River, one of the largest tributaries in the region, where we will begin our exploration. During the trip, we will pass through the flooded jungle, observing birds and animals in their natural habitat.
Our local guides will provide us with detailed information about the species we encounter, from exotic birds to reptiles and mammals that call this ecosystem home. This trip is an opportunity to learn about the region’s ecology and the importance of preserving these habitats.
Sacambu Lakes (Peru)
Our first stop will be the Sacambu Lakes in Peru, where we will engage in artisanal fishing, including the exciting capture of piranhas.
Here we will also have the opportunity to observe dolphins, especially during the season when they are with their young.
Artisanal fishing is not only a fun activity, but also a way to understand the sustainable practices that local communities have used for generations to live in harmony with their environment.
Fossil Center and Lunch
We will visit a fossil center that exhibits prehistoric species from the region, giving us a unique insight into the natural history of the Amazon. Here, we’ll learn about the creatures that once inhabited this region and how the ecosystem has evolved over time.
Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch prepared with local ingredients, refueling for the rest of our adventure. This typical lunch will feature traditional dishes that highlight the flavors and culinary techniques of the Peruvian Amazon.
Brotherly Peoples: Iceland and Benjamin Constant
After lunch, we’ll visit the town of Islandia in Peru, known as the “Venice of the Amazons” for its canals and natural beauty. Entry to Iceland costs $8,000 pesos.
This charming village, with its stilt houses and waterways, offers a unique perspective on life in the Amazon. We will also explore the village of Benjamin Constant in Brazil, with its rich culture and traditions. Here, we can interact with residents, learn about their way of life, and appreciate the blend of cultural influences that characterizes this border region.
Return along the Solimoes River
We will end our tour by sailing down the Solimoes River, known as the Amazon in Brazil, before returning to Leticia. This final leg of the journey offers spectacular views and the opportunity to reflect on the diversity and majesty of the Amazon rainforest.
During the return journey, our guides will share additional stories and knowledge about the river and its surroundings, enriching our experience and leaving us with a deeper understanding of the region.
